Product Description

Lion’s Mane mushroom, or known as Hericium erinaceus, is a type of rare culinary mushroom that grows on old or dead broadleaf trees. It is frequently consumed as a food in Japan and China. Furthermore, it has some special properties that are good for brain health, especially in post stroke patients, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

GKB Lion’s Mane Mushroom 400mg contains the active ingredient Erinacine A, which is the first to be developed into an Erinacine A-enriched supplement in the world.

What is the difference between wild Lion’s Mane mushroom and its mycelium extract?

In Lion’s Mane mushroom, there are 2 types of active ingredient, Erinacines and Hericenones. Hericenone are mainly found in the fruiting bodies of Lion’s Mane mushroom while erinacine are found only in the mycelium. What this means is that the normal ones that we consume contains mostly only hericenone but not erinacine.

Studies have shown that hericenones failed to stimulate levels of nerve growth factor (NGF) in the brain, while erinacine A have the most effect of stimulating NGF. If that’s the case, getting the most out of it will be to have a standardized mycelium extract that contains the highest possible concentration of erinacine A.

What is nerve growth factor (NGF)?

In addition, nerve growth factor is a group of proteins that are responsible for the normal and healthy growth of the nerve cells. If this factor is lacking, brain cells will literally start to die. That is why NGF is particularly important in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Moreover, Benefits of Lion’s Mane:

  1. Aids in post stroke recovery
  2. Gives protection against Parkinson’s Disease
  3. Reduces progression of Alzheimer’s Disease
  4. Possesses antidepressant properties
  5. Lowers H.pylori activity

Studies on Lion Mane:

Last but not least, Alzheimer’s disease is believed to be caused by abnormal build-up of protein plagues known as amyloid plaques. They then affect the brain cells, causing them to lose function over time. Studies have shown that after a 30 days administration with H. erinaceus mycelium, the amyloid plaque in the cerebral cortex is reduced.
